The Ikea hamper light tent
So, after making this cheapo paper light tent i wanted something bigger. This lightbox has lots of space and folds neatly after use.
IKEA makes a hamper or laundry bag called dimpa. It cost’s about 10$ and they also make quite a cheap energy saver lamp that fits perfect inside it. It is called the liesta and costs about 15$.
Here is a picture of the finished box from the front:
This one is from the back. You can see where the energy saver lamp goes in through a cut out hole:
This is a sample shot of a 2.5 ” external harddrive:
How it was made
It’s pretty straightforward. Just assemble it according to IKEA’s instruction manual. Then cut out a hole for the energy saver lamp. The picture below shows how it all hangs together:
Number (1) are the rims that keep the hamper round. (2) is the IKEA saver light. It hangs from holes that are cut in the hamper. The light is facing the top of the hamper to avoid any direct light on the object.
The cover of the hamper has a hole cut out :
This has to be glued / sewed / nailed to the rest of the hamper.

This is great!
Even better than the little paper thing. I can’t wait to build this myself. Thank you!

hey…if you carefully cut the opening as a flap/door, you can use it as a door, and add a hole(s) for the camera lens.

Good idea!
It would be much better if there were more light sources, and they were on the outside of the photo box/hamper to evenly diffuse the light.
The blue background appears to be made up of a few different shades of blue pixel, suggesting the white balance wasn’t perfect. This could be due to the inconsistent light conditions caused by having the light on the inside of the photobox.
Strong halogen desk-lamps set up on the outside of the hamper might be a better solution.
